Plain News - A Touch of Amish

Dogwoods

Beloved Readers,

Hello! Happy spring! It’s been a while since my last newsletter, and if this is your first time to receive it since you’ve signed up, welcome! Many of our new subscribers joined through my website while others joined through Lisa Bergren’s book scavenger hunt.

I hope that this spring season is being kind to you in your neck of the woods. My husband and I went to Vermont the first weekend of April where we saw our youngest son graduate college. While there, we experienced a foot of snow, and it felt like more than that because these Southerners were not prepared.

Thankfully, it seems warmer weather is here or on the way for us all, and during this blessed time we have the added joy of celebrating Easter and the resurrection of Christ.

I’m often asked about how the Amish celebrate the various holidays. The Amish definitely celebrate Easter, but they don’t celebrate with an Easter Bunny or other decorations the way that most Englisch do. Very few Amish dye eggs or have an Easter egg hunt—although a few families quietly enjoy that Englisch tradition. All Amish, however, read the scriptures associated with Easter during the Sunday meetings, and they have a Good Friday service.

Since the busyness of life has kept me from sending out a newsletter this year, I wanted to have a special contest just for my subscribers.

I’m giving away all three books of the Amish of Summer Grove trilogy: Ties That Bind, Fraying at the Edge, and Gathering the Threads, Fraying at the Edge is a Romantic Times finalist, and the third book, Gathering the Threads, releases August 15. All three books will be sent to one winner as soon as I can get my hands on a printed copy of the last book in the trilogy.

Three-Book Giveaway

Also…I have a special book-news announcement and giveaway coming out in the next newsletter!

Happy Easter!

Gathering Threads

After three months of draus in da Welt, Ariana has returned to Summer Grove, the Old Order Amish community where she was raised for twenty years, and life with her Brenneman family.

Skylar Nash, the Englisch-raised young woman is working in Ariana’s café while getting to know her birth family and their Plain way of life.

Skylar’s time in Summer Grove has changed her outlook, just as Ariana has grown to see her personal faith in God in a different light than the manner she was taught while growing up.

Both women will have to make decisions about their paths—and Ariana must decide what role her childhood friend, ex-Amish Quill Schlabach, will play in her life.
