I’d like to introduce you to Sherry Gore, author of Taste of Pinecraft: Glimpses of Sarasota, Florida’s Amish Culture and Kitchens. I first came in contact with Sherry in 2006. Our friendship has grown over the years, and now I’d like to give you a chance to get to know her.
Sherry is a member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church—a Beachy Amish Mennonite church in Sarasota, Florida. For three years Sherry has been a scribe for the Amish newspaper known as The Budget. The Budget is a national publication serving the Amish and Mennonite communities since 1890. She is also a writer/food reviewer for The Pinecraft Pauper, Pinecraft’s village newspaper.
Sherry has written a 400-page cookbook. In addition to nearly 700 heirloom recipes from Amish and Mennonite women across the country, there are stories and tidbits about births, engagements, weddings, deaths, funerals, birthday celebrations, ordinations, anniversaries, wildlife encounters, and accidents.
Daniel Fisher, editor of the Pinecraft Pauper says that the cookbook is filled with, “…everyday comings and goings of life in Pinecraft, our Amish/Mennonite village situated in the heart of Sarasota, told through years of letters submitted to The Budget newspaper. Even if a recipe flops, the story with it won’t.”
You can read more about Sherry and about how to order her cookbook by click here. In my spring newsletter, I offer a chance to win an autographed copy of Taste of Pinecraft: Glimpses of Sarasota, Florida’s Amish Culture and Kitchens. In this blog post, I’m offering a second cookbook. So if you entered the newsletter contest, here’s another chance to win a copy of Taste of Pinecraft.

I collect cookbooks, but especially love the Amish ones!
One of my best friends in Jr. high school was a Mennonite, Donna, was her name. She was older than me and on our bus ride back and forth to school (York,PA) she taught me how to crochet. My family also had a Mennonite family we were very close to, the Hershey family. Sweet, humble God fearing and God loving people. I thank the Lord for allowing our paths in life to cross.

To decide on an Amish recipe is very difficult for me. First I have to read ,AGAIN, about the author, then the people ,God forbid if there are pictures! That takes a lot of time! I study them, wonder about the families….. then I finally get to the recipes. Oh dear! What do I want to make? Well, after an hour of all this glorious perusing, I look at the clock. Good heavens! Find something that will be really fast….The Fresh Apple Cake and raisin cream pie will have to wait til tomorrow! Thank you so much for bringing the Amish people closer to us through their cooking!
I would love to get this cookbook it’s sounds so wonderful. I have always been so interested in the Amish way of life. Please enter me into the contest. I’m so glad that Sherry invited me. Thank you.

Dear Cindy,
I have just finished reading The Sisters of the Quilt series for the second time. And guess what! All of the same emotions ran through me the second time as they had done in the first. The betrayal. The forgiveness. The love. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking of it.
Thank you for bringing the Amish life alive in my imagination.
Have you thought of trying to get them made into a movie? Maybe Micheal Landon Jr?
Well just a suggestion.
Bre
Hi Cindy, I have read every book by Wanda Brunstetter and was intruduced to your books by my late aunt Helen who was a 2 time breast Cancer survivor. She told me if there ever was a book written other than the bible to draw me closer to god then I just had to read ur books. I find you write like Wanda, straight to the stry and no running around the bush explaining the story. I have always wanted to visit the Amish country but have never had a chance. I will one day. Even if I’m not picked for the cookbook I would love to be in touch with Sherry. I would love to get to know her and her life as an Amish. would love to win this yummy sounding cookbook!!!!
The one thing i love most about the Amish/Mennonite cookbooks I’ve seen is the glimpses into their lifestyle. It’s so relaxed and pure; no artifice. There is a gentleness and genuineness about the fictional novels I’ve read, which is such a vacation from today’s frezied pace and the stresses and worries of trying to cope. Thank you for provided a much needed respite.
If this cookbook was done by Sherry I have no doubt it’ll be a great one!
